A Medley Of Good Works: Ways To Give Back Around Carrollton, TX

|

Medley Home Services wants to thank you for trusting us to provide you with the best in HVAC Services all year round. Thanksgiving season is a special time to feel the deep gratitude for all we have, especially with the challenges we’ve all recently faced. It’s also a great time to take that gratitude and turn it into action to help those in need. There are so many deserving and needing non-profits and charities throughout Carrollton, Coppell, Lewisville, Farmers Branch, Plano, Flower Mound, Allen, Highland Village, and Frisco. Here, we’ve compiled a short list to get you started. The amazing, unexpected thing about giving is how much you truly receive in return.

Bea’s Kids

Bea’s Kids was founded in 1990 by Bea Salazar, a disabled mother of five, when she began feeding hungry children from her Carrollton apartment complex, after witnessing a small boy looking for food in the dumpster. Her efforts began to expand, as her group of kids grew in number. She even found herself helping the kids with their homework. Soon she was fighting on their behalf in ways that included addressing illiteracy, school dropout, domestic strife, drugs, violence, gangs, and poverty. One woman changed the world for North Texas kids, but knew that to successfully do the good work, she’d need a team. Bea’s Kids, the nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency was born. Bea’s Kids serves more than 200 students, K-12, living in low-income apartments. Their camp, “Try New Things” helps bridge the gap in progress that occurs when kids don’t engage in academic and social development over the summer months, and provides activities in the areas of Art, Literature, Science, and Life Sciences.

We all appreciate the healing companionship of a dog or cat. These two non-profits are in service of our furry friends. Check out the sites for more info, as well as adoption events, and just to see the adorable pics of pups and kitties.

Lost Paws Rescue

Lost Paws Rescue of Texas’ mission is to prevent animal suffering and cruelty, as well as to educate about spaying/neutering, and responsible pet ownership. They also help the homeless animals in the Dallas-Fort Worth find loving forever homes!

Operation Kindness

Operation Kindness is a pioneer in North Texas for providing assistance to homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment, advocating humane values, supplying companionship and medical care until each is adopted into a responsible home.

Trumpets 4 Kids

Here’s another story to pull at your heartstrings (or, blow its horn?) In 2007, founder Freddie Jones met two young girls and their mother in Grapevine, TX who had come to hear him play. The girls were very interested in music, but their mother did not have the financial resources to buy a trumpet. Freddie decided to give them one. After working with small groups of students whose families and schools were not able to provide them with trumpets, Freddie began raising money, and formed Trumpets4Kids. Accountability and a strong work ethic are instilled from the moment a student receives a trumpet (they sign a contract agreeing to practice one hour a day,  they learn how to care for the instrument, and perform for each other often.) We know that learning music develops listening skills, assists in emotional development, enhances confidence, and has been linked to improved math, memory and reading skills. But, it’s the healing, universal language of music, bringing people together that truly makes the world a more loving place.

We hope the work of these amazing people has inspired you. We all contribute to shaping our world, and this is empowering. Thank you for being our loyal customers. It is our honor to keep you and your loved ones comfortable, breathing clean, fresh air at home! We know it all starts there. If you need us, give us a call at Medley at (972) 449-4834 (or visit our website) Here’s wishing you and yours a happy, abundant Thanksgiving holiday!
